IDAL member José D. Martín is coorganizing the workshop on Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare 2013 DMBIH2013 (http://dampa.cdm.depaul.edu/events/DMBIH13/index.html) in the framework of the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining series (http://icdm2013.rutgers.edu) that will be held next December in Dallas (TX, USA). The workshop is coorganized with members from the German company Fresenius Medical Care, and the American universities of Yale, Oakland and DePaul. Contributions on this interesting topic are welcome.

IDAL is participating in the project entitled “Smart tools for the Prescription of orthopaedic Insoles and Footwear (SMARTPIF)”, that will officially start next May, 1st. SMARTPIF was proposed in the FP7 within a call focused on research for SMEs, being very recently approved and signed by the European Comission. The duration of the project is two years, and our partners in this adventure will be the Spanish companies “Unidad de Pie Diabético S.L.” (project’s coordinator) and “Alu Group, S. L.”, the British company “Biomech Tecnologies International Limited”, the Italian company “Eurosuole SPA”, the Luxembourg company “Lion Systems”, the Spanish technological institute “Instituto Tecnológico del Calzado y Conexas”, the British “University of Salford” and the Italian “Università Politecnica delle Marche”.
La Escuela Bayes de Modelación y Estadística impartirá diversos cursos de corta duración en la Facultad de Economía de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid en 2013. Los cursos ya confirmados son:
- Enero/2013: Introducción a la Modelización Estadística Aplicada a la Gestión Empresarial.
- Febrero/2013: Modelos de Regresión Cualitativa Bayesianos y Dinámicos, un Enfoque Alternativo Aplicado a la Gestión y a los Conocimientos de los Clientes.
Ya están abiertos para ambos casos el plazo de matrícula. Podéis consultar toda la información relativa a los cursos en este enlace. Los cursos están organizados por el Departamento en Economía Aplicada de la UAM en colaboración con la empresa Bayes Forecast.
In the frame of the EFIS project, IDAL has presented some result of Energetic Efficiency applied to Intelligent Buildings. These research has caught the attention of local newspapers, and this week has been published an interview with the research team. You can see the news here.
DAL is about to start the holidays. In the hot summer of Spain, IDAL members have enjoyed a meal that means the beginning of holidays and Summer, and the end of the academic year. See you in September with batteries fully charged!
IDAL has signed an agreement with Tissat, a Spanish company focused in new technologies. IDAL will provide support and know-how in Collaborative Crowd Computing that Tissat will offer as a business service at its Data Center Walhalla, one of the biggest private data centers in Spain.
IDAL members José D. Martín and Emilio Soria recently attended the 7th International Workshop on BioSignal Interpretation, that was held in Como (Italy). Prof. José D. Martín co-chaired the Symposium on Signal Processing and Dialysis treatment, with Dr. Emanuele Gatti, CEO of Fresenius Medical Care EMEALA (Europe, Middle East, African and Latin America). One of the contributions to this symposium was presented by Mr. Carlo Barbieri (Fresenius Medical Care) and dealt with the research carried out within the framework of the fruitful collaboration between IDAL and Fresenius Medical Care i13n the last few years.Ç
IDAL members José M. Martínez and Pablo Escandell attended during the end of April to the 20 th European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks, that was held in Brugge (Belgium) between 25 and 27 April. They presented two papers entitled “Extended visualization method for classification trees” and “Regularized committee of extreme learning machine for regression problems “. The meeting was a success, and Brugge was a superb scenario for the conference.
José D. Martín was co-organizer of a special session, and together with Héctor Ruiz (IDAL collaborator) presented a paper entitled “Constructing similarity networks using the Fisher information metric”.
IDAl has recently collaborated with ExpoScience 2012, a science fair that is yearly hold in the Science Park at the University of Valencia. This year, the new facilities of the Engineering School where IDAL is located have alse held some scientific activities. IDAL stand was about biosignal acquisition and processing, and real-time audio effects, activities closely related to teaching in Electronics Engineering, one of the main teaching tasks of IDAL.
IDAL members were recently visiting Prof. Manuel Domínguez González, from the area of Automatic Control (AAC) of theInstitute of Automatic Control and Manufacturing (IAF), at the University of Leon. In the same visit had a meeting also with Prof. Ignacio Díaz, from the Automatic Area at Univesity of Oviedo. The meeting was about new Machine Learning techniques applied to energetic efficiency.
