IDAL member Joan Vila attended the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining that was held in Atlantic City, from November 14th to November 17th. Joan presented the work entitled “Improving mortality prediction in cardiovascular risk patients by balancing classes”, submitted to the Workshp on Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare (DMBIH). The workshop was co-organized by another IDAL member, José D. Martín.
IDAL participated actively in the Valencian Summer School on Machine Learning that was held in Valencia during 15th and 16th September 2015. The School was sponsored by the University of Valencia, the Technical University of Valencia, Big ML and Las Naves. Prof. José D. Martín gave a keynote talk entitled “The Future of Machine Learning”, opening the second day of the school.
Expociencia is a doors open day organized by the University of Valencia Technology Park with the collaboration of theSchool of Engineering of the University of Valencia. Since 2012, IDAL has participated in this festive day focused on bringing science and technology closer to the broad public, especially children. Last May 24th, we were setting up an activity called “My body is electric” in which attendants saw how some of their electric biosignals were acquired and processed.
IDAL is involved in the organization of the workshop “Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare (DMBIH) 2014”, within the framework of the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining series (IEEE-ICDM) that will be held next December in Shenzhen (China). IDAL members Emilio Soria and Joan Vila are spending some time in Fortaleza (Brazil) teaching a course on Data Mining to students form Labomar (Sea Sciences Institute). It is also expected to start working and research collaborations with some research gruops in Brazil.
IDAL has today released to the public its new web page. The change is motivated to update the CMS to a more secure version, a change in the aesthetic of the web, more modern (in our opinion) and a lighter menu and content estructure. We hope you enjoy our new appearance.

IDAL is participating in the project entitled “Smart tools for the Prescription of orthopaedic Insoles and Footwear (SMARTPIF)”, that will officially start next May, 1st. SMARTPIF was proposed in the FP7 within a call focused on research for SMEs, being very recently approved and signed by the European Comission. The duration of the project is two years, and our partners in this adventure will be the Spanish companies “Unidad de Pie Diabético S.L.” (project’s coordinator) and “Alu Group, S. L.”, the British company “Biomech Tecnologies International Limited”, the Italian company “Eurosuole SPA”, the Luxembourg company “Lion Systems”, the Spanish technological institute “Instituto Tecnológico del Calzado y Conexas”, the British “University of Salford” and the Italian “Università Politecnica delle Marche”.

IDAl has recently collaborated with ExpoScience 2012, a science fair that is yearly hold in the Science Park at the University of Valencia. This year, the new facilities of the Engineering School where IDAL is located have alse held some scientific activities. IDAL stand was about biosignal acquisition and processing, and real-time audio effects, activities closely related to teaching in Electronics Engineering, one of the main teaching tasks of IDAL.
