IDAL is participating in the project entitled “Smart tools for the Prescription of orthopaedic Insoles and Footwear (SMARTPIF)”, that will officially start next May, 1st. SMARTPIF was proposed in the FP7 within a call focused on research for SMEs, being very recently approved and signed by the European Comission. The duration of the project is two years, and our partners in this adventure will be the Spanish companies “Unidad de Pie Diabético S.L.” (project’s coordinator) and “Alu Group, S. L.”, the British company “Biomech Tecnologies International Limited”, the Italian company “Eurosuole SPA”, the Luxembourg company “Lion Systems”, the Spanish technological institute “Instituto Tecnológico del Calzado y Conexas”, the British “University of Salford” and the Italian “Università Politecnica delle Marche”.
DAL is about to start the holidays. In the hot summer of Spain, IDAL members have enjoyed a meal that means the beginning of holidays and Summer, and the end of the academic year. See you in September with batteries fully charged!
IDAL members José M. Martínez and Pablo Escandell attended during the end of April to the 20 th European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks, that was held in Brugge (Belgium) between 25 and 27 April. They presented two papers entitled “Extended visualization method for classification trees” and “Regularized committee of extreme learning machine for regression problems “. The meeting was a success, and Brugge was a superb scenario for the conference.
José D. Martín was co-organizer of a special session, and together with Héctor Ruiz (IDAL collaborator) presented a paper entitled “Constructing similarity networks using the Fisher information metric”.
IDAL members were recently visiting Prof. Manuel Domínguez González, from the area of Automatic Control (AAC) of theInstitute of Automatic Control and Manufacturing (IAF), at the University of Leon. In the same visit had a meeting also with Prof. Ignacio Díaz, from the Automatic Area at Univesity of Oviedo. The meeting was about new Machine Learning techniques applied to energetic efficiency.
The Universitat de València representing IDAL, the Valencian Conselleria de Sanitat and the company Nephrocare E-Services Spain (subsidiary of the German multinational Medical Care) have signed an agreement to develop a computer system which will improve patients’ assistance and diagnosis –especially for those suffering from kidney diseases.
