Prof. Soria’s talk will review the concepts of big data, smart data, Internet of things, Industry 4.0 and Deep Learning, and how to use this concepts in the context of running a business. The talk will take place next Wednesday, 21st of June at 9 a.m. at the ADEIT headquarters (Pz. Virgen de la Paz, 3, Valencia).

Professor Paulo J. G. Lisboa visits IDAL

Professor Paulo. J. G. Lisboa from Liverpool John Moores University visited IDAL on 2nd May to give a seminar entitled “Data insights from machine learning with applications to biomedical data”. Prof. Lisboa is one of the most worldwide-recognized personalities in biomedical applications of machine learning and data analysis, currently chairing the Horizon2020 Advisory Group for Societal Challenge 1 (Health, Demographic Change and Wellbeing) and the IEEE Task Force on Medical Data Analysis.

Prof. Emilio Soria to participate on a debate about Transparency and Open Governance

Prof. Emilio Soria has been invited by Fòrum Universitari Joan Lluís Vives to participate as a speaker during a forum on Transparency and Open Governance sponsored by the Youth Council of the Local Government of Valencia.

The XXV Fòrum Lluís Vives will take place on May 8th on the Municipal Youth Office (Campoamor 91, Valencia) starting at 5 pm. IDAL at ICDM-DMBIH

IDAL participated in the prestigious IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM), that was held in Barcelona from 12th to 15th December 2016. José D. Martín chaired and co-organized the 4th Workshop on Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Health (DMBIH); many researchers attended DMBIH that began with a keynote talk given by Prof. Paulo J. G. Lisboa, Professor and Head of Department of Applied Mathematics at Liverpool John Moores University. Besides, five IDAL members co-authored a work entitled “Machine Learning for modeling the biomechanical behavior of human soft tissue”

IDAL holds an event about Open Data

On the 27th of September, IDAL organized the event “Open Data: new challenges for Society” at the School of Engineering of the University of Valencia. The event was focused on explaining the advantages of open data for society. In the event, different speakers participated from both technological firms as well as public organisms, which shared their knowledge on data science.

Data science is revolutionising many aspects of society. Open and shared data are resulting in great changes in business models, as well as in the way of understanding the government. In the Open Data Conference of 27 September at the ETSE-UV all these issues were explained and we deepen on the different perspectives in the field of study.
Open Data generate a cycle of richness and transparency that benefits society as never seen before. New development and management models appear by using this kind of data that has not stopped growing in volume and diversity during the last years. They are data related to people, societies, firms, public organisms, etc. and that are available to be used.
Among others, the participants of the event were the Autonomous Secretary for Transparency, Zulima Pérez Seguí; Pilar Campíns Falcó, Vice-Principal for Research of the Universitat de València; and Emilio Soria Olivas, Full University Professor of the Universitat and representation of Tinámica, Wolfram Alpha and GMV.

Prof. Emilio Soria presents a conference about Big Data in Social Sciences

Prof. Emilio Soria presented on 14th of June an introductory conference regarding Big Data and data analysis in the 2.0 society invited by the Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Valencia. The available sources of information have experimented a notable growth which can not be ignored by the social analysis. Prof. Emilio Soria discussed during the conference under this premise the applications, uses and potential of the Big Data analysis for Social Sciences and the investigation of social phenomena

Prof. Emilio Soria presents a conference at the Economics Faculty of the University of Valencia

Prof. Emilio Soria will present an interesting conference about “Big Data and Predictive Analytics: the data business” at the Economics Faculty of the University of Valencia next 13th of May. Big data is growing fast as organizations devote technology resources to tapping the terabytes of data flowing into their organizations and externally in social media data and other sources. Prof. Emilio will show how to make profit of this data and what does this all mean for business intelligence users and systems.

IDAL in ESANN 2016

IDAL members José D. Martín, Marcelino Martínez and Fernado Mateo attended the 24th European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks, Computational Intelligence and Machine Learning (ESANN 2016), that according to more than two decades of tradition was held in Bruges (Belgium), from 27th to 30th April. IDAL presented three works in the conference: “Multi-step strategy for mortality assessment in cardiovascular risk patients with imbalanced data”, “Performance assessment of quantum clustering in non-spherical data distributions”, and “Physics and Machine Learning: Emrging Paradigms”, which actually was the tutorial of a special session with the same name, that was organized by José D. Martín, Alfredo Vellido (Technical University of Catalonia) and Paulo J. G. Lisboa (Liverpool John Moores University). The conference was a success with many works dealing with cutting-edge methods and the hottest current technologies in the field.
