José D. MARTÍN represented IDAL in the Global ImasT event organized by eGauss (http://egaussholding.com/). The event took place in the Science Park of the University of Valencia last November 25th; the event is considered the most relevant meeting for technology transfer in Spain since in this third edition, the event has taken place simulatenously in 13 different venues.

As it is traditional, the last week of April, the charming city of Bruges (Belgium) will see another edition of the European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks, Computational Intelligence and Machine Learning (ESANN). IDAL will participate with three papers and a special session on “Physics and Maching Learning: emerging paradigms”, co-organized by IDAL member José D. Martín. IDAL member Joan Vila attended the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining that was held in Atlantic City, from November 14th to November 17th. Joan presented the work entitled “Improving mortality prediction in cardiovascular risk patients by balancing classes”, submitted to the Workshp on Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare (DMBIH). The workshop was co-organized by another IDAL member, José D. Martín.
IDAL is co-organizing a special session entitled “Towards interpretable machine learning applications in biomedicine and health”, in the IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics, that will be held in Valencia from 1st to 4th June 2014. Contributions on this exciting topic are encouraged. More information in the official call for papers.

IDAL members José M. Martínez and Pablo Escandell attended during the end of April to the 20 th European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks, that was held in Brugge (Belgium) between 25 and 27 April. They presented two papers entitled “Extended visualization method for classification trees” and “Regularized committee of extreme learning machine for regression problems “. The meeting was a success, and Brugge was a superb scenario for the conference.
José D. Martín was co-organizer of a special session, and together with Héctor Ruiz (IDAL collaborator) presented a paper entitled “Constructing similarity networks using the Fisher information metric”.
Intelligent Data Analysis Laboratory members assisted recently at the Twenty-Fifth Annual Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems, which is the premier scientific meeting on Neural Computation. The NIPS Conference, Symposia and Tutorial Program will be held at the Granada Congress and Exhibition Centre in Granada, Spain.
The conference had a very high level of quality of papers, posters and assistant from first-level international institutions and companies, and was really very interesting for IDAL interests.
Paper submission to the European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks, Machine Learning and Computational Intelligence (ESANN 2012) is now open. IDAL member Dr. José D. Martín co-organizes a special session on “Interpretable models in Machine Learning” together with Prof. Paulo Lisboa (Liverpool John Moores University) and Dr. Alfredo Vellido (Technical University of Catalonia). Contributions on this topic are welcome by 30th November. More information in:
