This workshop has been held three times at the IEEE ICDM in Dallas, TX, 2013; in Shenzhen, China, 2014; and in Atlantic City, NJ, 2015; all of them as a half day event. The workshop featured six paper presentations each time. Our keynote speakers were Dr. Hong Yu from University of Massachusetts in 2013, Dr. Yuan-Ting Zhang from Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014, and Dr. Qing Zeng from University of Utah in 2015. There were also best paper awards one for each year of which the 2013 award was sponsored by Fresenius Medical Care. A special issue called “Clinical Data Mining” for the Journal of Computers in Biology and Medicine has been published (Volume 62, July 2015). The special issue on “Mining Big Data in Biomedicine and Health Care” for the Journal of Biomedical Informatics attracted 35 manuscripts out of which 17 were published. More details about DMBIH’14 workshop can be found at the workshop website: http://dampa.cdm.depaul.edu/events/DMBIH14/. Selected papers of the third workshop DMBIH’15 will be published in a special issue entitled Mining Big Biomedical Data of the International Journal of Knowledge Discovery in Bioinformatics (IJKDB), and papers accepted in the forthcoming DMBIH’16 will be published in a special issue of the Journal of International Medical Research.
